Description
Our lovely home is a well-maintained traditional Suffolk cottage that was originally built in the 17th century as a pair of farmworkers cottages. It is detached, heavily beamed and recently thatched, set in a very quiet and peaceful area surrounded by farmland and meadows.

We have restored (but NOT over-modernised) our cottage in order to preserve as much of the original character as possible, retaining numerous small rooms rather than "knocking them together". Full gas central heating is installed.

We have three first floor bedrooms (a pretty single, a double and a Master double with an en suite dressing room - potential nursery (!) - and separate shower room/WC) with large oak beams and exposed and polished floorboards. Downstairs, there is a simple but modern kitchen/breakfast room, a separate fully-plumbed utility room, reception/dining room with fireplace and multi-fuel stove, sitting room with inglenook fireplace, TV room, snug, office, garden room, downstairs bathroom and separate WC. Again, many of these rooms have exposed beams, tiled floors and old plaster walls.

To the front of the property there is a carefully-maintained cottage garden with well-stocked flower beds and a small pond. The narrow section of garden to the rear is bordered by a shallow stream that attracts ducks, coots and other wildlife. From the raised timber summerhouse there is a view to the rear over the stream into our neighbour's meadow where she keeps a number of horses. We have a large purpose-built detached single garage with gravelled parking for a further three or four cars. There is also a large timber shed with a built-in workbench.

We have numerous internal and external photographs available should you like to see them.

Although the area is very rural, there is easy access to Ipswich, Bury St. Edmunds and Norwich via the A140 and A14. Stowmarket railway station is just 15 minutes away and has an excellent mainline service into London.

We love our cottage and the very friendly village, and although Wetheringsett has no shop or pub of its own, it does have a great little village Primary School. And, we are just 2 miles from Debenham with its village pubs, library, Post Office, Co-op, specialist shops and High School (very highly regarded and is in the "Top 20" of State schools in the country!). We are only planning to move because we want to downsize and, possibly, retire early, but plan to stay living locally if we possibly can.
